Did You Know? - Difference, Requirement, and Grouping Type of Driving License for Motorcycle

Motorcycle driving licenses are divided into SIM C, SIM C1, and SIM C2, these driving licenses are helpful for different motorcycle types. It differentiated refers to the cylinder (cc). It’s written on Police Regulation of Indonesia No. 5 Year 2021 about the Issuance and Marking of Driving Licenses. Here are the requirements:

1. Requirement for SIM C

  • SIM C is for motorcycles with cylinders up to 250cc
  • Applicant must have a minimum age of 17 years on an Indonesian legal identity card
  • Applicant takes the practical test using a suitable motorcycle

2. Requirement for SIM C1

  • SIM C1 is for motorcycles with cylinders over 250cc up to 500cc, or similar motorcycles such as electric motorcycles
  • Applicant must have a minimum age of 18 years on an Indonesian legal identity card
  • Applicant has owned SIM C and has used it for 12 months after its issuance
  • Applicant takes the practical test with a suitable motorcycle since there will be a deviation of the capacity of the machine

3. Requirement for SIM C2

  • SIM C2 is intended for motorcycles with cylinders over 500cc or similar motorcycles, including electric motorcycle
  • Applicant must have a minimum age of 19 years on an Indonesian legal identity card
  • Applicant has owned SIM C1 and has already used it 12 months after its issuance

This grouping of types of driving licenses leads to minimizing accidents. The citizen should contribute to maintaining safety in driving and ensure the driver has good knowledge, ability, and attitude.
