Did You Know? - KIR Test of Motor Vehicle

Have you ever heard about KIR? Car owners mostly understood this test for their vehicles. KIR is taken from the Dutch word "KEUR", which means inspection. KIR is a series of checks that must be carried out to ensure that vehicles operating on the road comply with the requirements, are safe, and are fit to drive on the road. This is also stated in Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation, regulated in Article 53, Paragraph 1 concerning KIR. KIR testing is mandatory for commercial vehicles, whether used to transport passengers or goods. The KIR test is mandatory for vehicles that have yellow plates and the following vehicle types:
- Taxi
- Rental Car
- Human Passenger Car
- Cars and Trucks Carrying Goods
- Bus
- All Types of Trucks
- Pick Up Car
- Trailer Cars and Attached Cars
What elements will be tested during the KIR process? As a vehicle owner, you must know this. Because if there are damaged components, the vehicle will not pass the test:
- Pre-test stage, for complete file inspection, non-mechanical inspection and visual test
- Smoke tester to determine the level of vehicle smoke thickness in diesel-engined vehicles and to test the carbon dioxide CO/HC levels in vehicles that use gasoline fuel
- Play detector to check the components under the vehicle to see whether they meet the requirements and are still roadworthy
- Headlight tester to measure the light intensity of the vehicle's headlights
- Side slip tester to check the front wheels of the vehicle
- Axle road to weigh the empty weight of the vehicle (without load)
- Brake tester to test brake efficiency
- Speedometer tester to see the magnitude of the deviation of the speedometer on the vehicle
In addition to bringing the vehicle to the testing unit, you also need to prepare several documents before carrying out the KIR test, such as:
- BPKB (motor vehicle owner's book)
- STNK (vehicle registration certificate)
- Original KTP (identity card) of the vehicle owner or driver. Prepare a power of attorney if the applicant is on behalf of the owner of the vehicle
- Route permits for public transportation
- Vehicle type testing certificate or validation of vehicle construction and engineering (SRUT), for vehicles carrying out motor vehicle testing for the first time
- Recommendations for a test ride from the transportation agency of origin if testing a motorized vehicle outside the area
- Proof of payment of the KIR test registration fee
Vehicles that pass the KIR test and pay the test fee will receive a Smart Card, certificates, and side markings. The KIR test must be carried out every six months.
In Motor Vehicle Insurance and Marine Cargo (Inland Transit) Insurance, if it is discovered that a motor vehicle's KIR validity period has expired, the claim cannot be processed further, because this is considered that vehicle unfit. Vehicles must operate in roadworthy conditions in accordance with Indonesian traffic laws and be driven by a driver who has a valid driving license according to the type of vehicle used.
